2023 finalists

Impact100 Garden State, an all-women’s philanthropic organization, awarded $375,000 in grants to nonprofits at its Annual Awards Meeting on June 8, 2023.

The grants were awarded based on member votes and funded entirely by member contributions. The recipients of $100,000 grants are:

Family Promise of Morris County, for its program “Affirming Voices of Women to Secure Mental Health & Housing Stability” (AVOW), which will provide clinical mental health services on its Promising Solutions Campus for women experiencing homelessness

Oasis—A Haven for Women and Children, for its “WomenSpeak: the Oasis English as a Second Language Program,” which will allow low-income immigrant women to gain English fluency so they can navigate government services, advocate for their children in schools, pay their bills, earn citizenship, and find employment.

Servant’s Heart Ministry for its “Workmanship Trades Training and Mentoring Program,” which addresses the needs of under-skilled and underemployed young people by offering free construction skills trade training in a hands-on learning program.

The three $100,000 recipients also received unrestricted $10,750 Merit Awards, as did the remaining four finalists:

Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation, the nation’s leading provider of specialized inpatient and outpatient care for children and young adults, from chronic illnesses and complex physical disabilities to a full scope of developmental, behavioral, and mental health outcomes.

Happiness is Camping, which provides camping opportunities  for children with cancer and sickle cell disease and their families.

Project Self-Sufficiency, which partners with vulnerable low-income families to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency and family stability.

The Ramapo College Foundation, which provides programs designed to expose students Paterson and Passaic public schools with educational and experiential opportunities in the arts.

In the Impact100 model, each member contributes $1,000 and the donations are pooled to create high-impact grants. Since 2013, the organization has given more than $3 million to nonprofits in its service area of Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Union counties.

“We’re thrilled to be giving the most money we’ve ever given in a single year, thanks to our record membership,” says Debby Seme, president of Impact100 Garden State. “It is our honor to support these worthy organizations with the help of our caring, committed members.”
