Grantee Spotlight: Head Start Morris County

In 2015, Head Start Morris County received an award of $102,500 to create an early language and literacy program, with two key components: teacher coaching and parent education. The program is ongoing. It has served 300 families annually and has distributed more than 18,000 books to children to date.

Head Start Morris County’s parent education includes its Fatherhood Initiative, which offers a variety of services and support to adult male family members and role models. Services include adult literacy support, role modeling techniques for active involvement in nurturing young children, strategies for managing family conflicts, implementing positive child discipline, and helping their children learn.  New children’s books in their native language are provided for reading at home with youngsters.
